Training Program Overview

The Training section primarily focuses on supporting, coordinating and facilitating training and exercise opportunities with quality educational programs and instructors; including realistic, adaptive and competency-based training and comprehensive exercise development and support.

Mission

Build capability through training and exercises based on National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) and Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP) fundamentals.

Vision

West Virginia stakeholders have the appropriate skills and knowledge to properly respond to any all-hazards event.

Training Schedule

  • July 28-30, 2020 – PER-340 Active Threat Integrated Response Course – Charleston

Training Requirements

Local jurisdiction emergency management agencies who receive funding via the Emergency Management Performance Grant (EMPG) are required to complete the prescribed training and exercise criteria in order to remain eligible for grant funding.

2019 Training/Exercise Requirements

  • EM Director will have cumulatively completed at least two courses of the FEMA EMI Basic Academy
  • EM Deputy Director(s), Planners or other designated staff will have completed at least one of the courses of the FEMA EMI Basic Academy
  • All EMPG funded full or part time personnel will have completed (1) NIMS Independent Study (IS) 100, 200, 700 and 800 AND (2) the Professional Development Series (PDS) (IS) 120, 230, 235,240,241, 242 and 244
  • Participate in at least one discussion-based exercise
    • A real-world event or a regional Improvement Planning Workshop (IPW) can be substituted with proper documentation
  • Participate in at least one operations-based exercise
    • A real-world event may be substituted for this requirement with proper documentation
