UPDATE
West Virginia Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management: Tyler County Fuel Storage Tank Fire Extinguished
Charleston, W.Va. – Tyler County Emergency Manager, Tom Cooper, reports to the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (DHSEM) that the fire was extinguished as of 5:00 a.m.
The DHSEM Watch Center received notification at 7:15 a.m. today that the fire had been extinguished. Mr. Cooper advised that several fire units from Tyler County responded to the site as well as a special fire unit with a foam apparatus from Dominion Energy.
On Saturday, the DHSEM Watch Center received reports of a lightning strike causing a 1-million-gallon natural gas condensate storage tank owned by Dominion Resources near Friendly, WV in Tyler County, to catch fire. No product was reported to have been released due to this fire.
“Working with the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection, the local agencies assured the safety of the residents of Tyler County, “said DHSEM Director Michael Todorovich. “We are grateful to the Tyler County Office of Emergency Management and the first responders who acted quickly to put down this fire.”
